Bishop John Brungardt visited Saint Joseph Catholic School this past Friday.  He celebrated Mass with the students, speaking of the Good Shepherd in his homily.  The Bishop asked Mrs. Jenni Wittig and Mr. Lyles Lashley to be shepherds of the fifth and sixth grade students, while Doctor Catherine Strecker played an American tourist who couldn't imagine how the two shepherds would ever get their flocks separate again, once they were mixed together.  However each "flock" followed the voice of its shepherd, which is what we are to do with Christ, our Shepherd.

 

After the Mass, the students gathered in front of the school, where the Bishop blessed a new image of Saint Joseph, which now stands over the threshold of the school.  Father Klein said that he had long wanted an image of the saint to stand over the doors, especially as their lintels already contained a molded space for such an image. 

The image is made of oak wood with gold accent.  It was carved by an Ukrainian artist, Maxim Kovak.  The artist creates his wood carvings in his workshop studio in Lviv (Ukraine). The city of Lviv is over 700 years old and a home of extraordinary Western Ukrainian Art.  Father suggested that the students might say a prayer for the people of Ukraine when they see Saint Joseph over the doors of their school.
