Saint Joseph Catholic School held its annual Christmas concert, which was again superbly directed by Kyler Comley. His wife Alex provided technical support. The program began with the kindergarten and first grade students performing two counting reviews, with bells and colorful fabric.
The older students performed a modern retelling of the Nativity, entitled "Where is Simon the Shepherd?" It involved a shepherd, who goes missing and a court investigation into his disappearance.
Jake Schlessiger played the presiding Judge Trudy. Brody Brack and Leighton Dillon were the attorneys, Flee Maybe & Matt Hemlock.
The show was truly creative. For example, Caesar is called to testify, but the court must go to him, given his stature. Off they go, to Caesar's Palace, of course!
Ellinwood is considered "off-Broadway theatre" but Avery Panning won't be playing off the great white way for long, after her magnificent solo about Mary's role in the story.
The show was considerably, though delightedly, longer than in many previous years, and a large crowd was on hand. Some of the accompanying videos are dark when the students approached the very edge of the stage, because we do not have footlights.
